The Adamawa State Government confirmed Tuesday that 23 people have so far died as a result of an outbreak of cholera in the state.

The Director of Public Health in the state Ministry of Health, Dr Celine Laori, who made the confirmation in a news interview Tuesday, said three local government areas, namely Yola North, Girei and Lamurde are most affected. She advised residents to practice basic hygiene and sanitation, and to ensure consumption of only safe food and water.

The organisation, which had trained Adamawa-based journalists on risk communication only on Monday, also involved some journalists on Tuesday in its house-to-house risk communication campaign.
