President Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the European Union (EU) for being of help to Nigeria in diverse ways, including humanitarian and trade relations.

He spoke yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja while receiving in a farewell audience, the Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ketil Karlsen.

The Nigerian leader acknowledged that the bloc remained the largest trading partner and its members the biggest investors in Nigeria. He thanked the diplomat for facilitating the trips of French and German leaders, noting that it was during Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit that the door to relationship with Siemens of Germany on power was mooted.

Karlsen, who spent four years in Nigeria, said he enjoyed “excellent collaboration” with President Buhari, itemising the cooperation to include trade, military and humanitarian assistance.
