Buhari was sworn into Office as the President on the platform of the ll Progressives Congress on May 29, 2015 and he was re-elected after winning his reelection bid, defeating his closest rival Atiku Abubakar by over 3 million votes in 2019.The four leading candidates vying to succeed the president are Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party.
