First-Quarter Loss

British Airways parent IAG slashed net losses in the first quarter thanks to growing travel demand, the group said on Friday.

Losses after tax totalled four million euros in the first three months of 2024, sharply down from 87 million euros a year earlier, the aviation conglomerate said in a results statement.

Airlines tend to log losses for the first three months of the year because of the northern hemisphere winter, typically a quieter travel period compared with the peak-demand summer season. The House of Representatives, yesterday, took sides with the growing number of Nigerians calling for a cancellation of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s controversial 0.5 per cent levy on electronic transactions.

The Federal Government, yesterday, confirmed that more of the fleeing inmates of the Suleja Medium Security custodial centre have been recaptured. A Brigadier General from the Army Headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory , Wilto Nzidee, has said that Delta State is seriously lagging in filling up its recruitment quota in the Nigerian Army.
