The Senate on Tuesday approved 30,000 Naira as the new minimum wage for Nigerian workers, after the National Minimum Wage Act CAP N61 LFN Bill, 2019, was read for the third time and passed by the Senate on Tuesday.

A report by the Ad hoc committee on National minimum wage was presented by Senator Francis Alimikhena. The Senate then dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for the clause by clause consideration of the report of the Ad-hoc Committee. During deliberation on the report of the committee, Senator Ahmad Lawan said, “The Ad-hoc Committee promised to give a new minimum wage to Nigerians and they have fulfilled the promise. This gesture should be appreciated. We do not have to wait until we are threatened with strike action before we take action. The Nigerian workers must show that the government is paying them and they are paying the government in service.

He added, “Let me join our colleagues to commend the efforts of the committee. More importantly, let me commend the patience of Nigerian workers and the leadership of the Labour Union, who have over the years been calling for this minimum wage and have carried their efforts responsibly.”

It's may take long to pay.

Lol 😂 That they are already planning to increase VAT una never know anything last last naija na Scam

Which month will that commence?

Rubbish! Let them reduce this burden on the Nigerian taxpayers as well, then we will thank them.

Finally.... Thank God for civil servants your prayers have been answered

before tax or after tax just a bag of rice no kerosene

Does this worth celebrating celebrating at this time when we call ourselves the giant of Africa? 😕 The NGRSenate tweeted this and many were happy! 😒 Imagine how long the bill had spent in the Senate house! 😕😒 Now, we're here celebrating what's due to us!

When is it taken effect

Its too small pls tell them..

Breaking news that matters

Wich month they ar going to start

Good

Hope the presidency will not take us back to setting up another committee on how to get money to pay this increment which would take another 8 month before their report would be ready?

Then how would FG implement this when the minimum wage isn't included in current budget?

Pls NASS should tell INEC inecnigeria to pay corpers in Enugu state their money completely. They are paying 9k instead of 26k.. Pure injustice after using them. Pls help them make this go viral. Ekosodin

May God help them

I hope it affects nysc alawee 😢😢

Good news!!! When will it be implemented?

Thank God! If it's true!

Nigeria is bigger than this. Indeed too low for the growth of the citizens.

I hope this is not a pre-April Fools day
