The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State Governorship Election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party in his local government, Orhiomwon.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced that the APC polled 10,458 votes while PDP got 13,445 votes in Orhiomwon.Earlier, the running mate of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the Edo governorship election, Philip Shaibu, lost the election in his Local Government, Etsako west, to APC.No fewer than 1.72 million persons were eligible to vote in the September 19, Edo governorship polls.The election held in 18 Local Government Areas, 192 Wards, and 2,627 polling units.
Further distribution of registered voters in the three senatorial districts of the state shows that Edo South has the highest figure of 1,281,414; the North with 564,122; and Central senatorial district has 364,998.Although 17 political parties have fielded candidates for the election, it is a two-way race between APC and PDP.Obaseki was elected on APC’s platform in 2016 but defected to the PDP after being denied the ticket owing to intra-party squabbles.
Governor Obaseki deserved the victory and i am overwhelmed to seen him as a victor in the last gubernatorial election betwixt him and his counterpart, pastor ozagie known as ize iyamu
