Boarding schools should embrace taekwondo to stop bullying –Grandmaster Adewalure

OLUFEMI OLANIYIWhat did your federation intend to achieve with the recent training for senior coaches and players?

The training was targeted at senior coaches and senior players in the whole of the South-West. Although we called it training for those in the South-West, there were coaches from outside the region as well. Coaches came from as far as Zamfara and Kebbi states to be part of it because of the quality of the facilitators who handled the training.One of the persons who conducted the training is the Technical Director of the Nigerian Taekwondo Federation, Grandmaster Osita Egwin.

Many schools don’t teach their pupils taekwondo, especially at the primary level. What will you say is the reason for this? A lot of schools are teaching pupils taekwondo in Lagos State. Many private and public schools are doing that in Lagos but outside Lagos State, some schools do while some don’t. But taekwondo is a sport and martial art. It is a martial art in the sense that it is useful for self-defence.

Now, we are trying to energise schools to introduce a programme, ‘kick out the bullies.’ When you kick out the bullies, this problem of bullying will be solved. As a martial artist, you have boldness, the courage and nobody can threaten you or bully you. We will introduce it in many schools and I will advise boarding schools to introduce it.Yes, it will. Nobody can bully a Taekwondo athlete. This initiative is different from the training conducted in Ibadan for senior coaches and players.

As u r training those suceptible to bullying ain't u also training the bullies. Bullying is largely a nuclear family issue, Bullies are usually from unhappy families. Most of Dem just use bullying to expunge toxic emotions accumulated from home
