The Benue State Government commenced a yellow fever vaccination campaign in Ogbadibo local government area on November 21, 2020.The Benue state government on Saturday commenced the delivery of remedial medical consumables and drugs to three communities in Ogbadibo local government area, following an outbreak of yellow fever.
According to the state’s commissioner for science and technology, Dr. Godwin Oyiwona, at least six persons have died from yellow fever in the local government. Dr. Oyiwona now oversees the state’s ministry of health and human services, following the death of the substantive health commissioner earlier this month.During the vaccination flag off, the commissioner inspected water sources and said steps are being taken to improve on-water hygiene and other pressing needs such as better roads.
Enugu and Delta states have also recently reported a possible outbreak of yellow fever in several communities.These species of mosquitoes thrive in and near human habitations where they breed in even the cleanest water.
