With over ten African women dressed in bridal attire petting him on what seems like a honeymoon getaway vehicle, Abiola Akinbiyi, professionally known as Bella Shmurda, casts a lot of minds back to the legendary Fela Kuti and his 1978 escapade of marrying 27 women in one day.

The Fuji-Pop singer continues his intriguing career stint with his newest record dubbed, New Born Fela, where he attempts to mirror the radicalism and optimism shared by the late Afrobeat progenitor. “Mother Fucking Babylon/ I no stop till I get enough/ I no wait my journey long/ Make the money full pass bourdillon/ I be the new born fela/ Story teller, battery charger,” his charged gusto powers through the record.

For Bella Shmurda, who has been on a journey of defying public expectation, continues to soar as one of the most intriguing street artistes of his generation. After releasing Vision 2020, alongside Olamide, in 2020, he stepped into the public spotlight. His debut EPs, High Tension and High Tension 2.0., kept him in the hearts and ears of his fans till date. His debut album dubbed, Hypertension, is expected for release later this year. New Born Fela is out across all digital stores.
