BBC Hausa Service has announced the 2021 edition of its story writing competition for women.

The contest, the station pointed out, was introduced in 2016 to encourage women to tell and share their stories.

The competition welcomes works of fiction from women writing Hausa and entries should be between 1000 and 1500 words. Entries should be submitted to labari.bbchausa@bbc.co.uk and close on August 22. A winner is to be announced by an independent panel of judges along with two runners-up and other works worthy of commendation.

BBC News Hausa Editor, Aliyu Tanko, said the contest has “recorded tremendous success since its inception six years ago.” He added: “Hikayata has given so many women a voice, a stage and above all one of the most outstanding platforms to share their talent. Last year, we had an unprecedented 400 entries from all over the world and I’m hoping this year’s will be even greater.”

Averting an implosion of hunger and anger | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World NewsEndemic poverty, hunger and acute misery have struck the country deeper than the Federal Government seems aware of, to muster a pushback from the precipice. The dead duck President Muhammadu Buhari administration has how many days to go? This is a time to loot and hoard as much cash as possible from the public purse to fight the next election. Buhari metamorphosis created food crisis through his Fulani terrorist herdsmen, by killing indigenous people and destroying their crops. I hope he is not asking for food aid from Europe and other African countries? He can collect the cash and reloot 🙄 Jokes
