It was gathered that vehicles had stopped plying the route, thereby impacting negatively on the socioeconomic activities of the people as pregnant women could not access medical facilities in the other communities.
A resident of one of the affected villages, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, described the suffering of the villagers as unbearable. “The suffering is unbearable, especially during the rainy season like this. Motorists have stopped using the road due to its poor condition. Market women, who have to wade through muddy water to cross to the other side, get soaked before reaching their destinations.
The state Commissioner of Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, did not respond to calls to his mobile telephone as of the time of filing this report, but the Chairman of Ikono Local Government Council, Itoro Columba, admitted that the road was bad and required urgent government intervention.
