The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika has faulted the arrest of two pilots of Caverton Helicopters by the Rivers State Government.
“Civil Aviation is on exclusive list. So no other person but the Federal Government has authority to legislate upon. So also, the Nigeria Airforce is on exclusive list. There is no other person but the Federal government that has the legal right to legislate upon. “The police that also followed the governor to the place to make an arrest have also exhibited dangerous ignorance from our perspective in civil aviation,” Mr Sirika said.The pilots were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly violating the executive order issued by the Rivers State Governor aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus in the state.

I thought the honourable minister read the complaint of Rivers state government ealier on. When there is order as though is tyrant in democracy regime. Then, you ask the real definition of democracy.
So many ignorant people in the comments. What Gov Wike did is simply crass and irresponsible and can be seen as an invasion of property of the Fed Govt. Caverton has approval by fmaviationng to carry out oil & gas ops during this period.
Bristol, Aero and Carvaton all fly oil workers in and out of facilities, the federal Government and ofcus the whole Nigerian population know that we cant afford to shut down oil and gas industry, Oil and gas is an Essential duty in Nigeria, and all safety measures are taken.
The governor didn't handle this issue well.These pilots & passengers are essential workers that were issued approval by the federal government to operate; he would have simply verified their claims and subjected them to the screening process instead of embarrassing them this way.

And the state Governor said no flight is allowed to land within his jurisdiction. I think what the FG should have done was to call the state governor to brief him on why and when the airline is coming to his state. Gov. Wike's instruction shouldn't have been flagged.

The State has the right to it’s own laws, the FG doesn’t rule the whole country and should allow states the right to function.
