The Zamfara State House of Assembly has concluded arrangement to investigate the alleged diversion of N1.258bn given to 2,516 primary health care centres in the state for the purchase of drugs.

About N610,000 was released to each of the 2516 PHCs in the state by National Basic Health Care Provision Funds to augment their urgent health care needs, but only N276,760 was given to them, while N1. 258bn was allegedly diverted. In a statement, the Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations of the Assembly, Alhaji Mustafa Jafaru, said, the lawmakers had passed a resolution to investigate the alleged illegal diversion of the funds.

Jafaru said the decision to investigate the funds was made following a matters of urgent public importance raised during plenary by the House Leader, Faruk Dosara. The statement quoted Dosara as saying, “The money was released by the National basic Health Care Provision Fund to augment the urgent health care needs of the primary health centres of the country, Zamfara State inclusive.”
