Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, has told state governors to apply for mining licenses before making policy decisions on mining activities within their jurisdictions. Alake disclosed this through his X account on Thursday in a statement after meeting with Nigerian Governors' Forum Chairman, Kwara State Governor AbdulRasak Abdulrahman.

Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake , has told state governors to apply for mining licenses before making policy decisions on mining activities within their jurisdictions. Alake disclosed this through his X account on Thursday in a statement after meeting with Nigerian Governors' Forum Chairman, Kwara State Governor AbdulRasak Abdulrahman. According to him, the sub-national must play an important role in harnessing the potential of the country's mining sector resources.

'Solid minerals fall under the exclusive legislative list, and states should seek approval from the ministry before making policy decisions on mining activities within their jurisdictions. 'I encouraged the state governors to apply for mining licenses to become key industry stakeholders, ensuring revenue generation and environmental preservation.
