17 January 2022 Kindly share this story: File: Yobe State Governor and Chairman Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the APC, Mai Mala Buni Published 17 January 2022 Supporters of the All Progressives Congress under the aegis of the APC Rebirth Group have again on Sunday accused the Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of attempting to postpone the party’s national convention beyond February 2022.Published 16 January 2022 BOLA BAMIGBOLA writes that in spite of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party are still enmeshed in political crisis Less than seven months to the governorship election in Osun State, two major political parties; the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, have continued to grapple with internal crises.Published 16 January 2022 The Zamfara State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Yusuf Gusau, tells MAIHARAJI ALTINE, that his party was not involved in the attack on the PDP and its members during the planned congress in the state The Zamfara State’s PDP congress was disrupted last week and properties were said to have been destroyed by some thugs.Published 15 January 2022 Following the crisis rocking the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, the Donatus Nwankpa-led faction on Friday tabled its complaints before the party’s National Reconciliation Committee in Abuja.

This is as the group said by planting a February 25 date in the media—a period coinciding with by-elections in at least six states—the CECPC is plotting to “buy more time”. Spokesperson of APC Rebirth, Aliyu Audu, disclosed this in Abuja in a statement titled ‘APC Rebirth uncovers plot to extend convention date beyond February 2022. The observers are of the opinion that the pre-election and the poll proper may be fraught with avoidable tension.’ He said, “In furtherance of the agenda to continue the extension of its six-month mandate, which is now running to the 19th month, the Buni-led Caretaker Committee has come up with another plot to deceive party members and buy time to propagate its selfish agenda further. So also in Zamfara, since Governor Bello Matawalle, decided to part ways with the PDP, even as their leaders never showed concern while Zamfara was going through hell in the hands of bandits and other criminal elements in the state, they have been seriously hurt and are bent on doing everything possible to bring down the Matawalle-led administration. “The APC Rebirth has been reliably informed that the Caretaker Committee was behind various news reports planted in the media that the convention has been fixed for February 25, 2022. To kick-start activities towards the poll, interested aspirants had started obtaining forms to show their intent of vying for their various political parties’ tickets, as they (political parties) plan their primaries. “The CECPC, having realised that no less than six states will be going to the polls for various bye-elections on February 26, 2022, decided to plant a February 25 date in the media knowing full well that the convention cannot be taking place at a time bye-elections in which the party would be participating will also be taking place across different states in the country. On January 8, 2022, the Abia APC elected Kingsley Ononogbu as new chairman to replace Harbour.

” Audu said the actual plot was to use the February 25 date to buy more time, pretending it has no knowledge of the forthcoming bye-election, by which time the committee will be left with no option but to postpone the much-awaited February convention to another date. In APC, Oyetola battles Aregbesola’s men APC, the ruling party in Osun, has not known peace since the formation of ‘The Osun Progressives’, a group backed by the Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola. Their denial in accepting the members’ popular choice of their leaders led to the internal crisis in the party in the state and that was the reason for the violence and subsequent disruption of their congress by some aggrieved members of the party. He said, “The CECPC will do this either by arranging a group of people to obtain a kangaroo court injunction hiding under the guise of exclusion by virtue of the bye-elections or ride on the excuse of limited time if any other date in February is to be chosen. In any case, the purported February 25 date, just like many other decisions that the Caretaker Committee has taken, was not a collective decision by members of the Committee. The group had gone ahead to produce factional party executives from ward to state level and put pressure on Ileri Group, the political organisation of the incumbent governor. “This is the reason it opted to plant the date in the media rather than coming out with an official position. But the PDP officials are accusing both the state government and the security operatives of disrupting its congress? If they blame the government, our response is what I have earlier stated above. We wonder why other members of the CECPC have continued to tolerate the unilateral decision making and dictatorial excesses of the Chairman of the Committee. But beneath these reasons, lies deep-seated personal discontentment each of the arrowheads of the fight on Aregbesola side has against either Oyetola or some of his loyalist. We have reasons to be optimistic about what we’ve heard and seen in Abia State.

“We are bringing this new plot of the CECPC to public attention, just as we have done in many other instances, to reawaken the consciousness of party members to the reality of Buni leadership of APC and to call on all those concerned to prevail on him not to toy with the February date for the national convention.” Copyright PUNCH All rights reserved. Beside the fact that the ruling party which has been factionalised into Ileri Oluwa Group, loyal to Oyetola, and led by Prince Adegboyega Famoodun and TOP, loyal to the former governor, Aregbesola, many bigwigs in the APC have also been weighing their options and pitching tent with either of the two camps. The PDP said when the APC congress was conducted in the state, there was no record of violence. But the congresses had thrown up fresh rounds of misunderstanding in the party even with just few weeks to the governorship primary of APC, as Oyetola took firm charge of all structures of the party recognised by the national leadership to the chagrin of those in the opposing group.
