The Governor Mai Mala Buni-led caretaker extraordinary convention planning committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come under renewed pressure to conduct the national convention.

Concerned party members, led by Aliyu Audu, argued that the convocation of a national convention would calm frayed nerves among party chieftains across the country.

The APC Rebirth Group said the call was in the spirit of Buni’s 54th birthday celebrations. In a statement, the group said: “We believe that it is high time Governor Buni conducted the convention and allow a new leadership to take over or allow those who are willing to do so take the centre stage. “While the issue of legality or otherwise of Buni’s leadership has not yet been decided, it is our prayers that he would not await judgment, either in his favour or against him, before doing the needful.

“In the spirit of his birthday celebrations, we pray that God would touch His Excellency’s heart to save all members and stakeholders of our progressive party the needless acrimony and strive that his continued stay as caretaker chairman of the party is causing us…”
