It was gathered at the weekend the workers under the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress were mobilising for a protest on Tuesday.
Nsirim said the order, which was issued by the National Industrial Court sitting in Lagos, stopped labour unions from engaging in industrial actions adding that copies of the order had been served to the unions. But national and state leadership of labour dismissed the order, saying workers’ protest must go on as planned in Rivers.
He named such concerns as payment of outstanding salary arrears, which he said Wike had refused to pay workers in the state especially teachers and health care workers promotion arrears since 2015; payment of pensions and gratuities to retired workers since 2015 a d issuing of official circular to effect the payment of the new national minimum wage.
Peterside said Wike’s administration was treating workers with levity and disdain, despite his government’s reliance on the workers to achieve its programmes. “It is a shame that Wike is now running around courts to stop the organized labour from demanding for their rights. This is the same governor that went round begging the workers to support his re-election bid barely a year ago, what manner of a governor does this to his own people?
