The first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Algeria says Abderrahmane Benbouzid, the Health Minister of Algeria on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.
The carrier of the virus is an Italian citizen who arrived in the country last week Monday on the 17th of February 2020. According to the ministry of health, the patient has been kept in isolation since he was discovered at the Pasteur Hospital in Algiers. This is the second case of the virus detected on the continent. The first case of the virus was confirmed in Egypt. Abderrahmane Benhouzid assured the people that precautionary measures have been carried out at the airports and around the country’s land borders.
The luxury hotel the Italian was staying along with his companion is currently under quarantine. The H10 Costa Adeje Palace will remain under quarantine until the 15th of March 2020. The World Health Organization has urged the other countries on the continent to prepare adequately for the dreadful virus’ outbreak.
