Last month, Soludo sacked all the caretaker council chairmen, ordering them to hand over to the most senior staff of their council areas. The sacked chairmen had stayed for a cumulative two years in office, as their tenure was being renewed every three months by the governor, who simply wrote the leadership of the House of Assembly in the state asking for a renewal of their tenure. The sack sparked debate among stakeholders in the state.
Chigozie Igwe, who disclosed this in a signed statement on Sunday, described the move as a “theft of democracy,” while condemning the All Progressives Grand Alliance government for not adhering to democratic processes.
