With over 90 million registered voters, Nigeria has more registered voters than its West African neighbours put together.

Nigerians will go to the polls on Saturday and the head of the electoral commission, Mahmood Yakubu, a professor, has said he is determined to make the 2023 general elections ‘the best’ Nigeria has ever had.

A recent ruling by the Osun State election tribunal has cast doubts on the integrity of the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System , a technology introduced to address over-voting and inflation of votes. When the INEC Chairman addressed the Federal Executive Council and the Council of State, he reaffirmed that the elections would be held as scheduled. “As far as we are concerned, we are ready to proceed with the elections as scheduled,” he told them.

The INEC chairman has also met with the leaders of the political parties, labour unions and government agencies whose inputs to the election are considered important.Security of Voters, Election Officials The INEC Chairman extended these assurances to the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corp , Yusha’u Ahmed, a Brigadier-General, as well as the vice-chancellors of federal universities when he met with them a few days later.
