The Nation Newspaper Alleged Terrorism: Court fixes date for ruling on Miyetti Allah leader's bail request

A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled ruling for May 30 in the application for bail filed by detained leader of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo.

Arguing Bodejo’s bail application on Tuesday, his lawyer, Ahmed Raji urged the court to admit his client to bail on health grounds. He cited Section 36 of the Constitution and argued that a defendant in a criminal case is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Contending that his client did not establish a terrorist organization as claimed by the prosecution, Raji said what Bodejo set up “is an organisation meant to promote peaceful coexistence.

Lawyer for the prosecution, Mrs. Aderonke Imana faulted Raji’s arguments and urged the court to reject the bail application. The prosecution added that Bodejo also provided material support, assistance and transportation for activities connected with such acts contrary to Sections 29, 2 and 12 and Section 2, and 13 of the Terrorism Act, 2022.

The prosecution stated that the defendant was diagnosed with only high blood pressure, which had since been managed effectively and efficiently by the centre.
