Akande faults call for LG autonomy

Chief Akande spoke in his Ila residence at a press conference held to mark his 81st birthday anniversary on Thursday.

He said apart from the central government, the only tier of government recognised is federating unit. “When you talk of local government autonomy, you are talking about another tier of government. So, one must be abolished,” Akande said. He, however, added that self defence remains best line of defence, but warned that self defence must be done in line with the culture of the law of the land.

LG autonomy brings accountability closer to the people. True federalism demands that. If you are okay with Amotekun, then LG autonomy should not be a problem. When we complain about too much power at the federal level, same applies to too much financial power at the state level.

The reason LG seems to be doing nothing as their allocations have been taken over by state govt. Does the constitution not provide for the autonomy of the LG? Lemme visit 1999 constitution (as amended) again.
