At least 70 people were killed in an airstrike on prison and at least three children died in a separate bombardment as Yemen's long-running conflict suffered

At least 70 people were killed in an air strike on prison and at least three children died in a separate bombardment as Yemen’s long-running conflict suffered a dramatic escalation of violence on Friday.

This image grab from a handout video made available by the Ansarullah Media centre on January 21, 2022 shows the aftermath of an overnight Saudi-led coalition strike on a telecommunications hub in Yemen’s rebel-held port city of Hodeidah that triggered a nationwide internet blackout. “The coalition undertakes to abide by international law and proportionate response in all its military operations,” UAE ambassador to the United Nations Lana Nusseibeh said.

“It’s not acceptable,” Norwegian ambassador Mona Juul said of the strikes, calling for “de-escalation and restraint”. The coalition claimed the attack in Hodeida, a lifeline port for the shattered country, but did not say it had carried out any strikes on Saada.
