Tinubu’s visit comes in the wake of his outburst during the ruling party’s presidential rally in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, on Wednesday. The APC presidential flag-bearer had said the Naira redesign and lingering petrol scarcity were designed to scuttle his chances in the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.The APC governors who accompanied Tinubu for the “face-saving” visit to Buhari on Thursday night are the host, Aminu Masari, Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi, and Babagana Zulum of Borno.
It is not the first time that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, will make controversial a statement against President Buhari and the current administration. Last year, prior to the APC presidential primary election, the 70-year-old insinuated that he ‘made’ Buhari president in 2015. He also laid claim to the presidency, saying ‘Emilokan’, which means “it’s my turn”. The controversial moment also happened in Abeokuta.
