The Mkpat Uno village in Obot Akara local government area of Akwa Ibom State has called the attention of the state government and the Niger Delta

The village head of the community, Ekpenyong Edem who made the plea while speaking with our correspondent yesterday lamented that the only access road had been closed following the destruction of the Bailey bridge on the road during the civil war in 1970, adding that since then the community had been shut out from the rest of the world.

According to the monarch, the villagers have been forced to go through a long distance of over 20 kilometres to access the next community instead of just a few kilometres to access same through the bridge. He said since he received his certificate as a village head of the community in 1995, he had written several times to the state government and recently to NDDC but to no avail.

The traditional ruler also complained that there was no single health institution in the village, adding that pregnant women were always left at the mercy of traditional birth attendants who did not have the required training in modern day technology.
