The Nation Newspaper 25 teams to jostle for Polo UNICEF Charity Shields

polo team, former champions, Fifth Chukker and serial runners-up, Jos Malcomines, top the list of 25 teams to compete for top honours in the prestigious Charity Shield to be held between May 28 and June 9 at the foremost Fifth Chukker Polo & Country Club in Kaduna.

Regarded as one of the biggest charity polo platforms in the world, the Access Bank-UNICEF polo extravaganza will be decided in two stages, with teams battling for the UNICEF Cup and the events’ second most wanted prize, The Access Bank Cup in the first stage. . “This year’s tournament is more than an affirmation of that commitment to socio-economic wellbeing of mankind and acknowledgement of the impact the initiative has had on the lives of the orphaned and vulnerable children in northern Nigeria especially in Kaduna state,” the statement said.

The Charity Shield began in 2003 as a platform to support local charity organizations in Kaduna. Since 2006 this humanitarian effort has been geared exclusively towards UNICEF intervention projects for orphans and vulnerable children in Kaduna State.
