With a consistent awareness campaign and the rush for permanent voter card last year, the 2023 elections were expected to experience a massive turnout of electorate. Instead, the reverse was the case. ADEBAYO FOLORUNSHO-FRANCIS writes on the issue and chronicles the statistics of polling in Nigeria since 1979

The inconsistent turnout of the electorate as well as the voting pattern in the last four decades has always been a source of concern for political stakeholders and international observers.

At one point, INEC acknowledged that the statistics of youths represented the highest number of registered voters who would cast votes in the 2023 general elections. Despite reports that the polls were massively rigged, the 2023 general elections witnessed the lowest voter turnout rate in the country’s history of presidential elections.

In 1979, the voter turnout for the presidential election was 34.6 per cent. In 1983, the poll witnessed 38.9 per cent; in 1993, ; and in 1999 .

That is really shameful ‘New’ rating for the Professor Muhammad Yakubu in charge as the INEC’s Chairman. He should have been removed subsequently.

Whattttt?

When people don't trust what you do.

People turned out to vote they were either not allowed to vote or their votes were not recorded instead other results probably were uploaded.

Inec and Lies

That's the lie of the millennium. Inec should explain

Voters turn out was the highest ever but inec chairman and his shameless and shambolic members brought the figures you are using to judge , the fear is that so many people will never get to vote again

Courtesy of the deformed democrat

This is not true. Going by what was witnessed on 25th February, 2023 seems to be the highest turnout since 1999 though a lot of people were highly disenfranchised due to INEC's unpreparedness which resulted in the voter apathy recorded on the 18th of March.

That's the biggest lie from the pit of hell, this is the only election that so many youths were determined to vote but Mahmoud and APC rigging machinery said no so they could perfect their rigging plots.

Next year's turn out will drop to 10% courtesy of inecnigeria

Dropped or BVAS caught the politicians' pants down? They couldn't lie with their fake numbers again.

Wait, you guys should be specific? Izzit the Presidential or the Governorship?

After the presidential, all lost faith in INEC and stayed off the polls

The election was a big Sham

Lies!!!

No surprises after vote suppression with shit at home threats in d East, agbero attacks on any that looks non Yoruba in Lagos & Wike suppressing in Rivers, Yahaya digging up roads. D North doing what it knows best concocting numbers. Fed govt deprive all of Naira & petrol. Scham

Or you guys deliberately disenfranchise people who came out to vote?

Una caption sometimes ehnnn 😏😏😏😏😏😏😏

When i saw that poll that said if there is low turnout Tinubu we win i just know something like is we happen in that election and it did so am not shock about this headline

'If you nor wan vote for us make you sit down for house o'

People came out to vote but were prevented from casting their votes. After all that happened in the presidential election they realized there is no need coming out for the governorship elections

No surprise there!. They starved the people of fuel, then of money. Two important and crucial commodities for our mobility & sustenance! That's the cause, no need for long and silly analysis

Seeing this man face is like a nightmare to me jez the new face of lucifer

They said election was free and fair

This might be due to man-made problems created by INEC like poor logistics organisation, systemic disenfranchisement and voter suppression. When people are willing to vote, but the BVAS cannot authenticate them or electoral officials not showing up at all, what do u except?

Big lie

inecnigeria chair is a criminal. He caused it by fsiling to give pvcs or voting materials to voters..inecnigeria is d most corrupt apc govt institution right now.

The register needs to be cleaned up. There is over registration pre bvas

I don't like seeing the face of this nonsense INEC CHAIRMAN. I almost hit my phone when I scrolled and his face appeared

Think the voters register needs review, remove dead and emigrated people not coming home for election. Let’s know the active people on d list, stop saying using an inflated figure from the beginning

The era of writing election results in hotel rooms are over bvas is a game changer, during obj time the results are more than registered voters in some states, and there is no money to buy votes too that one is one of the low turnout

Or bvas revealed the true numbers

I'm not interested in hearing about any figure. Anything that has to do with INEC is manipulated.

This is not true , people really came out to vote this time but was suppressed and not allowed to vote

It only reveals that the North doesn't have the population it claims to have

It did not drop a particular candidate won but inec decided to cut his votes. It was selection not elections this man should return our money.

Breaking; Statistics

Liar

This cannot be true, we all saw what happened with results not been uploaded real time to the INEC servers. How then can you claim that there was low turnout?

This is not true. We saw inecnigeria purposely providing fewer ballot papers to polling units thereby disenfranchising people. Example, a PU of over 1000 accredited voters with just 600 ballot papers available. What do you think the numbers would look like across board
