In the Ogun accident, a diesel-laden tanker driver was burnt to death during an explosion at Atoyo, outbound Ijebu-Ode on the Ijebu-Ode-Ogbere Expressway.
The spokesperson for the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital. Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred at 10:45am and was caused by reckless driving by the tanker driver who was alone in the truck.
He said, “According to an eyewitness, it was learnt that the driver of the diesel-laden tanker was driving recklessly when it suddenly lost control and fell on its side with its content spilling on the road before it exploded.’’Also, the Federal Road Safety Corps said nine travellers died in an auto crash at Okurikang along Calabar-Itu road on Friday.Ofordu said 12 victims were involved in the crash out of which nine lost their lives on the spot, while three were in a critical condition.
He said, ‘‘The accident was being investigated to ascertain the cause. The three rescued persons are in a critical condition as we were called in to rescue but what we saw at the crash site was bad. Those involved were three female adults and nine male. But the corpses of the nine persons who died have been deposited at the mortuary. They include two females and seven males.”All rights reserved.
