THE WOODLANDS — The Woodlands had last played a baseball game nine days prior to Thursday’s Game 1 of its Class 6A bi-district playoff series against MacArthur.But rustiness aside, the Highlanders persevered, gutting out a 1-0 walk-off win over the Generals at Scotland Yard to take a 1-0 series lead.
Bryce Graves, The Woodlands’ cleanup hitter, was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh. Wright was brought in to run for the senior first baseman. Wright stole second base. Junior Kyle Hubert flew out to left, and Wright tagged up to advance to third. “It’s unreal, man. Feels like a dream,” Wright said. “Bryce had a great AB, got to first. Coach already told me I’d steal second, so first pitch I was going. He didn’t slide step; he brought it up. Kyle got a great piece, got me over . Won the ballgame.“Gotta do what we gotta do.”
