First responders from western Washington have arrived in North Carolina to provide help with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Homes and vehicles that were damaged in a flash flood from Hurricane Helene lie on the side of a road near the Swannanoa River, Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024, in Swannanoa, N.C. The Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search and Rescue Team has been deployed and Caleb Freeman, with the Redmond Fire Department, is on the ground.Freeman said he arrived early Saturday morning and has been working since that point. Right now, he does not know when he’ll be coming back home.
The federal government has been criticized by some on social media for a slow response. But Freeman offered his opinion saying he disagreed.
