More Wembanyamas? France set to produce multiple top prospects for NBA
JON JOHNSON After six playoff holes in sweltering conditions, Tyler Newsome of Augusta, Ga., could finally exhale after winning the 13-14 age division of the 75th Annual Press Thornton Future Masters on Tuesday at the Dothan Country Club
Asselta was the surprise of the day after starting the round five strokes back of Newsome, who was the leader after two rounds. “On 17 I stuck it to like 3 feet and made the putt,” Newsome said. “Going into 18, I knew what I had to do and I did it. I think it was about 10 feet. The three were sent back to the 18th hole for the playoff, and each made par. The second playoff hole was No. 14, where Hildreth hit his second shot over the green, while Newsome and Asselta both had terrific shots into the green in good position to try for birdies.
This time, Asselta pulled his drive out of bounds onto the cart path, resulting in a 2-stroke penalty. He dropped and hit another tee shot, thus was at three strokes in the fairway.Asselta’s fourth shot landed on the green but far short of the flag. Newsome also landed far short of the flag, but knew he was in good shape to finish off the victory unless he made any major mistakes.
