Twyla Tharp is arguably the best choreographer of the postmodern era. Her company will perform two new works to open the TITAS/Dance Unbound season in Dallas.or any number of other choreographers as the pinnacle of the postmodern dance era. But the scope and influence of, there hasn’t been a more American dance maker, one whose work reflects the optimism and athletic prowess inherent to the culture.
Her dancers stand upright, gliding across the stage in clean geometric patterns that satisfy through a kind of logical repetition that the audience easily recognizes. In some of her pieces, like 1986′sNow, for the second time in a decade, Tharp, 83, is bringing a pair of new works to Dallas, along with the revival of one of her rock ’n’ roll pieces.“Dance expresses the natural being,” she says in a promotional video for the show.
