James Steven Cox was arrested at Lloyd Wood Education Center – a PK-12 school in Northport – about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

A physical education teacher at a Tuscaloosa County school is on leave following his arrest at the school on Friday.

He is charged with public intoxication.Cox is on leave. Tuscaloosa County Schools Superintendent Keri Johnson sent this statement to families, faculty and staff: “We wanted to reach out to you to provide information about a situation involving one of our employees. James Cox, an employee of the Tuscaloosa County School System, was arrested at Lloyd Wood Education Center Friday and charged with public intoxication. Because of laws that govern employee privacy, we cannot publicly discuss details of a legal investigation involving an employee. However, it is important for our families and community to know that Mr.
