'That's not what debating all about. You sit behind a computer and do a debate—it's ridiculous,' the president said.
"I'm not going to waste my time," Trump said."That's not what debating all about. You sit behind a computer and do a debate—it's ridiculous. And then they cut you off whenever they want," he said.
In a statement from Trump's 2020 campaign manager, Bill Stepien, the campaign also said that the plan for a virtual debate was the Presidential Debate Commissions rushing"to Joe Biden's defense" and that canceling the in-person debate is"pathetic." "Here are the facts: President Trump will have posted multiple negative tests prior to the debate, so there is no need for this unilateral declaration. The safety of all involved can easily be achieved without canceling a chance for voters to see both candidates go head to head," Stepien wrote.
"We'll pass on this sad excuse to bail out Joe Biden and do a rally instead," the statement continued.Biden's campaign said that the Democratic nominee would participate in the remote debate. They said the former vice president"looks forward to speaking directly to the American people and comparing his plan for bringing the country together and building back better.""I would love to do a rally tonight. I want to do one last night," the president said.
