Trojans give coach Gerad Parker first career win
Another game-breaking performance by Devonte Ross and a dominant second half gave Troy a 34-12 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Quarterback Goose Crowder returned to the lineup after missing last week’s loss at Iowa with a shoulder injury and completed 18 of 25 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Three of those touchdowns went to Ross, a 20-yarder in the second quarter to put the Trojans up eight, a 44-yarder in the third to give them a 12-point lead and the 98-yarder that put the game away with 8:36 remaining.
FAMU got all of its points on field goals by Cameron Gillis, who hit from 29, 22, 31 and 43 yards. The third of Gillis’ kicks made it a five-point game at the half. “Some of that was provoked, but we’ve got to be able to step up and play a little cleaner,” Parker said. “But I’m proud of guys, certainly how we came out of the locker room and the things we did to finish the football game.”
