The Marvels trio can explore the dynamic of a younger hero amongst an experienced team that was originally teased in Captain America: Civil War.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Marvels trio will showcase a needed MCU team dynamic that’s been teased since Captain America: Civil War. A classic team dynamic in any story is the young blood learning from an older, established mentor. This is particularly effective in superhero stories, especially since big franchises like Marvel and DC now capitalize off of their superhero team-up films.
When the MCU’s Peter Parker was introduced in Captain America: Civil War, he was set up as Tony Stark’s protégé. Still learning the ropes of his newfound superpowers, Tony takes Peter to his first superhero battle, where he gets to interact with the far more experienced Avengers. However, this was never fully capitalized on, due to Peter's rejection of the Avengers, and then his temporary demise after the Snap, which led into Iron Man's own death shortly after Parker returned.
The MCU teased a similar dynamic with Spider-Man and Iron Man in Civil War, but it never came to fruition with Iron Man’s Avengers: Endgame death. This was ultimately the necessary direction for the MCU’s Spider-Man arc, but it was still a shame not to see the dynamic of a young hero amongst an older team play out. With the way Ms. Marvel set up Kamala, it seems like she’ll be the perfect candidate for an arc like this.
The Marvels’ Hero Team Foreshadows The MCU's Future The MCU has introduced numerous younger heroes in Phases 5 and 6 like Kate Bishop, Cassie Lang, and America Chavez. There’s also room for many more with upcoming projects like Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Ironheart too. With the potential future Young Avengers in the MCU, the franchise will likely try and incorporate more of these young heroes amongst the more experienced.
The Marvels team-up of Kamala, Monica, and Carol offers Kamala the perfect opportunity to learn from the experienced adults, and lets the MCU begin to play around with exploring how younger heroes fit into superhero teams. Given the impending roster of fledgling heroes that have been recently introduced, this makes the movie and its reception secretly more important, as while The Marvels may be the first real exploration of this dynamic, it certainly won’t be the last in the MCU.
