As a natural self-starter and the most experienced of the three heroes, Carol will presumably take on the role of the new team's leader and act as a mentor to both Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. It is not a role Carol planned for, but it is one she will have to embrace out of necessity.
This all marks a major change from Carol's apparent destiny following Avengers: Endgame, where she seemed poised to be a lone hero, traveling the galaxy alone for the rest of her life. The revelation that Carol has kept Goose all this time humanizes her, but also shows that there is more to her life than just being a hero. The Marvels trailer suggests that life could come to include a new-found family made up of the teammates Captain Marvel never wanted but may come to appreciate.
