The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) is actively preparing for a winter storm expected to bring rain and snow to the New Braunfels area. Drivers are advised to exercise caution due to potential icy conditions.

Winter weather is on the way for New Braunfels , with the possibility of rain and even snow in the forecast. Local drivers are being urged to exercise caution on the roads as icy conditions may develop. The Texas Department of Transportation ( TXDOT ) has been preparing for the winter storm , which is expected to bring precipitation to the area.

According to Tanya Brown, a spokesperson for TXDOT, the agency began pre-treating roadways on Monday and continues those efforts ahead of the weather event.TXDOT is placing a particular emphasis on applying saline solutions to roads in areas expected to see the most significant winter weather, including parts of Comal County and Kerrville. Brown noted that these regions are expected to experience more of a wintry mix compared to San Antonio. “We’re going to be treating more roads in Comal County and Kerrville than in the San Antonio area,” she said. Although TxDOT is taking all necessary precautions, Brown advised drivers to remain vigilant and take extra care when traveling during icy conditions. She recommended postponing trips or delaying commutes if possible. 'I would postpone going into the office or start later,' Brown said. 'It’s one thing to drive in snow, but ice is much more dangerous. You can’t control your vehicle on ice.' For those who must travel during the storm, Brown emphasized the importance of being prepared in case of an emergency. She advised motorists to ensure their vehicles have a full tank of gas and to carry essential items such as snacks, medications, blankets, and water. “If you’re going to drive, make sure you have a full tank of gas, and bring along snacks, medications, blankets, and water,” she said
