Cooks will miss a game for the third straight week, while Collins missed practice all...
Texans leading receivers Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins have been officially ruled out against the Cowboys, the franchise announced Friday.
Cooks popped up on the team’s injury report last week with a calf injury, and after missing Houston’s 27-14 loss against the Browns, this will be the third game Cooks has missed this season. Collins, who caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown against the Browns, missed practice all week with a foot injury. The 2021 third-round pick was sidelined two games earlier this season with a groin injury., who was benched for two games in an unsuccessful switch to backup Kyle Allen.
It’s a depth issue the rebuilding franchise has already dealt with this season. Cooks and Collins were both out in the team’s Week 9 loss to the Eagles. Mills began the game 8-of-9 passing for 90 yards and two touchdowns, which secured a tie game at 14 at halftime. But Mills followed that half by going 5-of-13 passing for 54 yards and two interceptions. Moore and Dorsett combined for seven catches, 112 yards and Moore caught a 13-yard touchdown.
Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton said Thursday “it will be a tremendous challenge if we were in a situation where we didn’t play with” Cooks and Collins, and the play-caller must once again draw upon limited depth at wide receiver. The Texans claimed Amari Rodgers off waivers from the Packers on Nov. 16, but the 2021 third-round pick was first activated in Sunday’s loss to the Browns and was not targeted in 17 offensive snaps.
