A severe weather threat continues for North Texas into Sunday. The primary threats are heavy rainfall, large hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes.
A round of storms is very likely into Sunday morning. A line of severe forms in West Texas will then push into the Metroplex. They also have the potential to be severe. All modes of severe weather will be possible. Very large hail, damaging winds, and even a few tornadoes are areas of concern. Widespread rain amounts from one to three inches are expected. With the ground already saturated from recent rainfall, localized flooding could also occur.
Expect drier weather on Monday and Tuesday with highs into the mid-80s. Rain chances return to North Texas on Wednesday. Severe Storms Hit North Texas with Hail and Suspected TornadoScattered thunderstorms brought heavy winds, lightning, hail, and a suspected tornado to North Texas Monday night. Large hailstones were reported in Rhome and other Wise County cities, while Denton County experienced hail ranging in size from quarters to golf balls. A tornado warning was issued for Johnson County, and a possible twister was spotted near Keene and Joshua. The National Weather Service will assess the damage and determine if a tornado occurred. Additionally, a house fire in Plano may have been caused by lightning during the storm.
