A man in Australia discovered a surprising guest in his barbecue grill: a large snake. The encounter was captured on video by Stuart McKenzie, a professional snake catcher, who calmly removed the reptile and released it to safety. The video highlights the unexpected ways snakes can find themselves in unusual places and the importance of respecting wildlife.

A man in Queensland, Australia, caused quite a stir when he opened his barbecue grill to reveal a rather large snake hiding inside. Stuart McKenzie, a seasoned snake catcher , captured the entire encounter on video and shared it on social media. In the video, McKenzie can be heard informing the homeowner about the unexpected guest: 'I've just seen its tail disappear up into the barbecue.' Seconds later, the doors to the grill open, revealing the snake to an audible gasp from the homeowner.

McKenzie, however, remains remarkably calm, laughing and declaring, 'There it is!' He reassures the homeowner, stating, 'That's not what you need in the barbecue,' adding with a chuckle, 'This does happen from time to time.' McKenzie's nonchalance is understandable considering his profession. For the past 12 years, he has been catching snakes for a living as the owner and operator of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7. He's also quite popular on TikTok, where his videos under the username sunnycoastsnakecatchers have garnered millions of views. The videos often feature him handling various snakes, showcasing his expertise and providing a glimpse into the world of reptile rescue. It's no surprise that his content resonates with viewers, given that a 2022 YouGov poll revealed that seeing snakes is the most common fear, with 30% of U.S. adults admitting to an aversion to serpents. In this particular instance, the snake turned out to be a non-venomous Carpet Python. According to McKenzie, it was likely cruising in the backyard and sought refuge in the barbecue. He explained that the snake was difficult to remove and they had to undo the front of the grill to reach it. Having safely extracted the reptile, McKenzie released it to another location. He couldn't resist adding a lighthearted note to the video caption, stating, 'Proof that keeping your bbq lid closed won't stop 'em from getting in!
