Could Columbus get a professional lacrosse team soon?
The Premier Lacrosse League is studying its options for 2024 as the PLL chooses cities for its eight league members in November.
Columbus had its chance in front of league founder Paul Rabil Friday and Saturday nights as a litmus test for the Columbus Market. The PLL sold out four games at the 22-million dollar OSU Lacrosse Stadium with crowds estimated at 2,500. "We will have voting by the public online at PLLvote.com," Rabil told ABC-6. "We will gather data on TV viewership metric from our partners ESPN, Ticketmaster and Live Nation. We're looking at venues like these ."
Former Upper Arlington star Danny Logan, who played collegiately at Denver, said of Rabil, "Five years ago he took a big risk by starting his own league. He brought a lot of the major players over offering health benefits, making this a full time sport for a lot of guys. It's really a great organization and a great product and I think we're on a rocket ship trajectory here."
On Logan, Rabil offered this, "He feels the crowd, he feels the viewership numbers on TV. He sees his jersey being sold and worn by young kids. That's important, that's what we're after and we want to continue that momentum."Rabil told ABC-6 the league is considering 30 cities and will trim that list to a dozen in July and announce eight cities in November.
