Pittsburgh was thus ranked as the 23rd overall best city for Fourth of July Celebrations — and was actually ninth when it came to just the “Safety & Accessibility” category — while Philadelphia ranked 34th in an essentially “so-so” spot. “Many cities offer activities of all types during the 4th holiday period,” says William C. Gartner, professor of applied economics at the University of Minnesota. “Of course, one of the biggest draws it the fireworks displays. The bigger the display the larger the crowds.”
