Walmart grocery prices in Pennsylvania are some of the country's least expensive.

The first step taken to find this information was to establish what items make up your run-of-the-mill grocery list. From there researchers recorded the prices of each item in or around Walmart Supercenters in each state’s most popular cities before find the average costs to round things out.

The study thus found that Pennsylvanians pay 4.99 percent less than the national Walmart grocery price average, one of the lowest percentile differences in the study. The absolute cheapest to be found, however, are in West Virginia, which boasts prices 7.70 percent below the national average. “The prices of identical products can vary — sometimes radically — from state to state,” the study reads. “For example, a typical basket of food and home products from Walmart in Tennessee costs 14.30% more than the national average, while just over the border in Kentucky, the same basket costs 6.72% less than the national average.
