Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's 'outrageous' attempt to shut down Annunciation House, a Catholic migrant shelter was blocked by a Texas judge
An El Paso judge shot down Attorney General Ken Paxton ’s attempt to close a Catholic nonprofit sheltering asylum-seekers, which the judge ruled violates state religious freedom laws.
Ken Paxton moves to shut down Catholic border nonprofit that helps migrants The judge denied Paxton’s counterclaim, which he wrote violates the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act by “substantially burdening Annunciation House’s free exercise of religion and failing to use the 'least restrictive means' of securing compliance with the law.” Paxton’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment or say whether the state planned to appeal the ruling.
