The Holywood man served on the PGA Tour's policy board from 2021 to last November when he resigned after citing concerns over the time and energy he had to commit to the role
Padraig Harrington has called Rory McIlroy "soft" for wanting to rejoin the PGA Tour's policy board instead of focusing on his golf game.
McIlroy had a change of heart, though, and signalled his intention to rejoin the board in April until backtracking when he revealed earlier this month that initial conversations had been "pretty messy" and had reopened "old wounds". He told the Golf Channel: "We need a minority of players on the board to give some golfing advice, but we have got to trust that the business people we employ are working in our best interests. There is no reason why they wouldn't be working in our best interests.
"It takes a lot of time, dedication and sacrifice to play this game at this level. The best thing that could have happened is Rory not getting back on that board. He was being soft by going back to it. It's not the distraction he needs, he needs to be out there playing golf. "I got to say, I didn't realize when it came to LIV, you know, some of the guys left, and it didn't bother me. A lot of my friends went to LIV as well. But I realized last week, God, we missed Bryson.
