According to the arrest report, Brennand said he approached the 17-year-old's car, a 2008 BMW because he believed it was the same car he'd tried to pull over the previous night. According to a narrated video of the events in the OIS Brennand thought the car might be stolen. Cantu and Proulx, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, stopped down the street. According to the lawsuit, Cantu told Proulx that he'd been shot, opened the door and crawled out of the car and laid on the sidewalk.
