California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday mocked President-elect Donald Trump ’s Department of Government Efficiency presidential advisory committee, describing it as a ‘promo project.’ The governor’s remark came during a press conference in Redding, California while on a tour of portions of the state which voted for Trump in the 2024 presidential election. DOGE , he claimed, appears to be following the lead of the his state’s civil service reform work.
“We’ve been working before DOGE was DOGE, I don’t know, it’s like a promo project,” Gov. Newsom said. “California’s been a leader in that space.” He also used the appearance to promote his “career master plan” to promote the economy and workforce in the Golden State. “Everybody is included in this agenda,” the governor said on the floor of Shasta College's welding shop. “I don’t want people to feel like they’re not.” Joining the governor during appearance was state Rep. Heather Hadwick, R-Redding. Her presence marked a rare instance of a Republican appearing with the governor at a press conference. DOGE head Elon Musk is now in communication with lawmakers on Capitol Hill as the federal government prepares to transfer power to the Trump administration. Musk and his 4-year-old son, X-Æ-12, recently traveled to Washington, D.C. for a meeting with several Republican leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. Rep.
