The governor’s remark came during a press conference in Redding, California while on a tour of portions of the state which voted for Trump in 2024.

“We’ve been working before DOGE was DOGE, I don’t know, it’s like a promo project,” Gov. Newsom said. “California’s been a leader in that space.” Joining the governor during appearance was state Rep. Heather Hadwick, R-Redding. Her presence marked a rare instance of a Republican appearing with the governor at a press conference.
