The developers of the Co-Op Marketplace are seeking public funding to help pay for a new Pearl-style development in New Braunfels.
The New Braunfels Economic Development Corporation is considering a plan to provide $4.5 million in public funding for a Pearl -style marketplace downtown. Plans for the project, which is being called the Co-Op Marketplace , call for converting the former site of Producers Co-op feed store into a destination with restaurants, retail stores and outdoor gathering spaces.
New Braunfels considers hotel, film studio for land near Gruene The seven-member EDC board is appointed by the City Council. The board governs the use of some of the city’s sales tax revenue. The board is scheduled to vote this week on an agreement with 210 S. Castell LLC that would provide the company with up to $4.5 million over 10 years to help pay for the project.
Randy Rogers Band plans new rooftop bar in New Braunfels The city would benefit by collecting sales tax and property tax from the development, Jewell said, other businesses in the area could benefit from increased visitor traffic. The marketplace is “anticipated to be a significant sales tax producer,” he said in August. The city would expect to recover the costs of the subsidy from “cumulative net benefits” in just under 10 years, he said — the same year as the final annual payment.
